Our Department

Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College was established in 1997. The department started with a four-year professional course Bachelor of Information Science (BIS) being run by the University of Delhi and duly recognized by the University Grants Commission. The first batch of BIS students passed out in 2001 and the last batch graduated in 2004.

The course was introduced to cater to the current and future needs of the computing industry. The curriculum for the course was designed to include a balanced mix of coursework, assignments, and project work. B.Tech. under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) was also offered from 2013 to 2017. There are a number of courses in core Computer Science as well as in current technologies, besides courses in Mathematics, Electronics, and Management. Later, the programme was converted into a three-year undergraduate programme, B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science.

Over the years, the Department has evolved into a vibrant centre for teaching, learning, and research, aligning itself with emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Quantum Computing, Medical Image Processing, Internet of Things (IoT), and Software Engineering. The Department regularly organizes seminars, workshops, educational visits, outreach programmes, and skill-development initiatives in collaboration with leading academic institutions and industry experts. Recent academic engagements have focused on themes such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science for Sustainable Development, Media and Information Literacy, and Research Opportunities in IoT, providing students with exposure to contemporary developments in the field.

The Department actively promotes research and innovation through student projects, publications, and participation in conferences, while also providing opportunities for experiential learning through its well-equipped laboratories and ICT-enabled teaching practices. Student engagement is further strengthened through the Computer Science Society, Tech-A-Thon which serves as platforms for technical, creative, and leadership development. The Department also benefits from infrastructural support under the DBT STAR College Scheme and contributes significantly to the academic excellence of the College, which is accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC and ranked among the leading colleges in the country.
