With an aim to achieve holistic development of our students the Department conducts various seminars / talks for students’ academic improvement and to guide them in choosing their career. The Economics department organizes various events through EKONOMIKO the economics society. All the faculty members and students of the department are members of this society. The Department has a very active “Seminar Committee” which conducts talks workshops and seminars.The society works under the mentoring of the faculty but is largely student driven. The highlight of the society is the annual economics fest “QUAESTUS”. Quaestus is an intrinsically student-led fest that aims at delivering both fun as well as a learning experience while simultaneously providing for an environment conducive for honing one’s skills. Keeping with the nature of Economics – a discipline which provides the raw data which powers other social sciences – this event is perfect for observing social interactions closely and getting to know people with same areas of interest and expertise. The eventwitnesses huge inter college participation in wide array of events like paper presentation, quiz, and debate. The festival receives overwhelming response from students spanning from south campus to north campus. Recently the department has started the “The Finance and Investment Cell ”.The Finance and Investment Cell(FIC) aims at bringing students from different backgrounds who are driven by a business and financial inclination thereby providing training, interactive sessions and discussions for financial analysis, global economic perspective and investment skills The Department has an active “ Documentary and Book review Club” where in each semester students review some prominent literature and documentaries on economics and its sub disciplines.
Quaestus’19 powered by Harvard Business Review carved an entirely new paradigm when it comes to department-specific, student-organised fests.This year’s edition was given a huge boost, by Professor Jayati Ghosh, Development Economist and Professor of Economics at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, who opened the fest with her stimulating lecture on Developmental Economics.

The Seminar Committee under the Department is very active in organizing talks etc.The Department of Economics conducted one day talk entitled “Contemporary issues in Indian Economy” on 21 August, 2018. Prof.Arun Kumar, Malcolm S. Adiseshiah Chair Professor at Institute of Social Sciences was the Chief Guest for the event. The Department organised a one day seminar on “Deliberations on Major Crises in Indian Economy” on 31 October, 2018. The key speakers were Prof.PrabhatPatnaik, eminent economist and Emeritus Professor, JNU, Mr.ParanjoyGuhaThakurta, Former editor of Economic and Political Weekly (EPW) and Mr. Harvir Singh, Editor,Outlook Hindi. In collaboration with the Finance and Investment Cell, ARSD College organised a seminar on 23 August 2019, discussing “Can India be a five trillion dollar economy?” We were honoured to have Prof. Manoj Kumar Jha (Member of Parliament, RajyaSabha) as Chief Guest and Prof.AtulSood (CSRD, JNU), Dr.Sukanya Bose (NIPFP) and Ms. Abantika Ghosh (The Indian Express)as Guests of Honour.
The Finance and Investment Cell(FIC) which operates under the Department actively keeps on conducting session on statistical softwares like STATA , daily sessions on finance and investment related issues. The FIC every year conducts Annual Financial Conclave.This year we invited Mr Arun Kumar Jha(DG,National Productivity Council). Prof CP Chandrashekhar (JNU), Mr Sushil Bahuguna ( Winner of Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellency in Media) and Mr Shishir Sinha (Hindu Business Line).
